Summer Time... At last

Finally it feels like June out there!!

Warm sunny days!!

Our days are full -

Between trying to get the new shop done

& work coming steadily into the shop, farming

&

trying to have a wee bit of fun

before summer is gone...

Can hardly believe its almost July??

We now have three less cows as one went to market

Two more went down to our friends & farm partners farm;

Quartz Family Farm -

They are going to help us farm & keep our clients

in all natural beef & pork - Thank you!

You will soon see those burgers at the new

GREEN LEAF CAFE

inside the Michigan Traders Building off of M22

As soon as she opens you will find both our

beef & pork at the new;

MARTHAS LEELANAU TABLE

in the village of Suttons Bay -

We now have 7 cattle left -

Next week two more steers go to market!

We had some excitement on Saturday

our friend Ray -From;

Quartz Family Farm

& his son Dylan

came up to help with loading cattle

and banding one calf to make him a steer -

We are leaving Master "T" a bull because of

his impeccable blood lines!

Then we had to tag & tatoo them -

One of them manage to get out of the shoot

while we were loading him in there -

LUCKILY Del Monico is a tame one...

I grabbed the halter laying on the ground

and wrestled it up over his horn and the

guys finally got him back in the shoot -

While I bribed him with

STONE HOUSE BREAD

(Ralph - thanks for your help you stopped

by just in the nick of time)

Other wise we might have had to have

set up bleechers for

calf roping time at WWAF ;-)

So far we have one new baby on the farm... that we can see...

One of our hens has been sitting for about a month

and yesterday we spotted a yellow fuzz ball -

aptly named "Lil Peep"

55 degrees here in the North & raining again!

It looks and feels way more like fall

than almost the first day of summer???

I did the dishes and laundry just to try to warm up -

I have a real problem with turning on the furnace in June!

I may just have to dig out the flannel lined jeans again!

We managed to get a fair amount done

at the Cedar house this weekend -

The yard there is getting back into shape

the flower gardens too!!

The wiring is all done in the shop

& we were able to start on the siding inside

Its going to look like an old barn in there

when we are done
I am still looking for a camera -

As soon as I have one I will

post pictures of the progress over there

Its getting very exhasuting trying to

work, renovate -maintain two places - -

The lawn here at the farm is in desperate

Happy Fathers Day

Its a beautiful day here in the North at the moment

temps near 80 and a nice breeze

It was time ot move the cows to greener pastures -

They were loving that!!

to think that we may have to give up this

way of life because of the rising costs of hay...

they are telling us 5.00 a bale off the field?
These wonderful gentle creatures are

something else and there

is a bond there that cannot be described

So I have a case of leaky eyes this am!

Tooling Tuesday

Bruce is working away out in the shop -

I am busy getting ready for another farm showing today at 11 -

Also loading the van up with all the boxes stored in the grainery...

We had a BUSY weekend - -
Bruce got the wiring run from box to box in the shop

and some of the insulation in ...

I finally got the laundry room painted -

now to get the border up and pictures hung!

We found out that if the people from FLA want the

farm they are going to want possesion by Aug. 1

So we went from being busy to BUSY!!

Beautiful Spring Day

Its warm its sunny

the grass is finally mowed - well most of it!!!

Thats ALOT of lawn with a push mower

and a weed whip (thank you honey)

The horse chesnut tree in the front yard is in full bloom,

the Lilly of the Valleys in the front yard are bloomin....

between the smell of flowers bloomin

& the farm...

it smells just like my grandmas

YES, we are going to miss some things here!!!!

To mow or not to mow...

I went to mow but not for long

the gas you see was all gone -

The parts for one could not be found...

should bury the thing deep in the ground

I tried the reel mower instead

but the dandel stems are far from dead -

So I tossed up my hands said I give up...

Went and played Frizbee with the pup ;-)))

Sand & Stone...

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING THROUGH THE DESERT.

DURING SOME POINT OF THE JOURNEY, THEY HAD ANARGUMENT;

AND ONE FRIENDSLAPPED THE OTHER ONE IN THE FACE.
THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPEDWAS HURT,

BUT WITHOUTSAYING ANYTHING,WROTE IN THE SAND:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

THEY KEPT ON WALKING,UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS,

WHERE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE A BATH

THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE MIRE

AND STARTED DROWNING,

BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROMTHE NEAR DROWNING,

HE WROTE ON A STONE:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE ".

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND

ASKED HIM,

"AFTER I HURT YOU,YOU WROTE IN THE SAND

AND NOW,YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?

"THE FRIEND REPLIED

"WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN IN SAND,

WHERE WINDS OF FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.

BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US,

WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE

WHERE NO WIND CAN EVER ERASE IT.

"LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND

How are things today...
Its looking like rain here again to day - the breeze is kinda warm

After that 80 deg. day on Monday

We are ready for lots of warm days!

Does anyone know of a GOOD brand of coffee -

Seems every brand we have bought lately tastes

they burnt the beans - -

We are looking for that good old fashioned

tastes like, smells like coffee - -

The kind that makes you want to

"GET OUT OF BED"

I have a fat lip this morning...

the dog and I were playing Frisbee and I was picking up the Frisbee
and he jumped up about that time and the top of his head got me...

saw some stars too...Ha - not to old to get stars in my eyes ;-))))
Yesterday I quit cooking - -

I had baked our lunch and I was putting the dish on the table

when out of the corner of my eye I saw this flash and heard a pop

- when I looked back the element in the oven was ON FIRE! -

- I grabbed the fire ext. and called in my fireman...

he shut the stove off and the fire was out...

no need for the fire ext.

but it sure added a bit of excitement

to our lunch hour!!

Needless to say - I don't' have an oven - here... so its PP and J for lunch today~
Just got a call from my mom that Dad is showing the farm tomorrow - -

Hope they don't need an oven ;-))))

Not sure we will have time to get the grass mowed either!
Had dinner w/ my brother and his lady Katie last night -

He sure has lots of tales to tell - -
Told him he is going to be one of those old men

that people all gather around to listen to some day...

Paul the owner of the rest. says; He is already old...

I said if he is old then I am ancient!
Even got the tale recounted of Craig - (Bruces cuzins) kayaking disaster - -
and tales of the places that Craig used to try to convince Dennis to go with him!!!
OH!! I also now have Dennis's camera & 300 pics or so

Catch up

Seems that many of you are not receiving my e-mail updates -

Though we are not sure why?

So will try to catch you up here - -

We finally have the window installed in the back of the garage (new shop)

and the siding all put back in - it looks awesome -

Now we can move forward with the electrical,

insulation and ship-lap siding inside -

Once that is all done we can paint the floors

and we will be ready to move equip.

No, we still don't have a camera so pardon my lack of pictures!!

The pictures I am using are ones the realtor

took when it was forsale -

Bruce is completely buried in the shop here

so we are trying to figure out a way

to work part of the day in the shop

and part of the day at the other house

but that requires getting up early

and that has not happened yet...

You might say we are exhausted ;-)

but for a good cause!

When we work over there I work on things

I don't need Bruces help with -

so the flower gardens are getting back into shape again -

I stay with in ear shot of Bruce so when

he needs that extra set of hands,

they are not far away -

We have had just enuff rain every week that every thing I have

been transplating over there is getting established again -

Our blueberries seem to love it over there!

We are getting anxious to move -

For lots of reasons

its getting really hard maintaining two places

and its a wee bit expensive too -

With gas at 4.20 a gallon the 50

mile round trip commute is a bit costly!
